About me!
Thanks for visiting this website. My name is Bríd, and I’ve been curious about how humans manage to navigate this world, with all its swings, roundabouts, poisoned and pointing (turn left for an interesting route, right for something more steady) arrows for quite a while now. In 2008 I completed a doctorate in Sociology which focused on the lived experience of recovering from eating disorder, and which was especially interested in the socio-cultural, inter-personal and intra-personal conditions which foster a person’s trusting relationships with their “lived body” experience in the world, in the body’s moving, sensing, sensual and emotional dimensions, for example.
After this, still looking for answers to the many questions and curiosities I had, I moved into the field of contemplative movement, studying and teaching practices such as Yoga, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement, Body Mind Centering and Authentic Movement.
To be honest, my own emotional pain and life struggles drove much of this exploring, and I was fortunate enough to learn through experience in my own psychotherapy that I did not need to suffer through the dark times alone, and that there is something immensely potent and even healing about sitting with another human whose heart, and ears, and all other receptors are wide open to tune into your experience, not just to the pain and losses but to the sparks of potential for authentic and sometimes playful connection, to the moments of happiness, pride, hope and really the whole of what a human can experience and express.
It’s been my good fortune and privilege to have found my way into becoming a psychotherapist also. Please do drop me a line by using the email listed below, or the contact form below, if you are curious about beginning your own psychotherapy process with me, or would like to know more about the Emotion Focused Therapy or SPEAKs approaches that I work with. I would be happy to hear from you.
